Kota Kinabalu, Aug 2025
— Facing the glow of a Sabah evening,
Stephen Hsia (13) set the tone with Paganini: Caprice No. 16
— quicksilver bow strokes, bold articulation,
and the candor of a young artist who lets the audience witness the making of technique.
The line was honest, the intent unmistakable: this is part of his long arc to conquer all 24 Paganini Caprices.
Then Dr. Goh Chia‑Chien traced a completely different constellation:
Henri Vieuxtemps — Souvenir d’Amérique (Yankee Doodle Variations).
With wit and fire, he moved from silvery harmonics to whirlwind passagework,
turning a familiar tune into a display of color, humor, and control.
It wasn’t spectacle for its own sake.
It was a conversation — between youth and mastery, study and polish, immediacy and poise.
Thank you, Kota Kinabalu, for the generous ears and warm welcome.
The journey continues — one program, one page, one take at a time.
